French Art Deco Silver-Plated Champagne Cooler
A beautifully proportioned French Art Deco champagne cooler by Udner, dating to the 1930s.
With its substantial cylindrical form, broad circular foot and generous double-loop handles, the design has a wonderful architectural simplicity. Fine horizontal bands encircle the upper body, adding a subtle decorative detail while retaining the clean, restrained character typical of French Art Deco.
The softly rounded handles are particularly elegant, extending from the body in two generous loops that give the piece both presence and practicality. The silver-plated surface has acquired a gentle patina over time, adding warmth to the otherwise crisp geometry.
Made in France by Udner, a French maker associated with finely designed silver-plated barware and table pieces of the period. The form was intended for entertaining, equally suited to chilling a bottle of champagne or wine as it is displayed as a sculptural decorative object.
A particularly handsome example of French Art Deco barware, with the combination of polished metal, strong proportions and distinctive handles giving it a wonderfully sophisticated presence.
