After Care

Vintage metals benefit from gentle, considered care rather than frequent harsh polishing intervention.

For pieces used at the table, Trove encourages regular use. Silver-plated, brass, and pewter objects tend to tarnish more quickly when left unused, while light, everyday handling helps maintain their surface naturally. If not in regular use, pieces should be stored clean and dry, ideally in a dust-free cloth or storage bag.

For decorative objects and pieces for the home, Trove recommends regular dusting and occasional light cleaning using warm, soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth, followed by thorough drying. This is usually sufficient to keep surfaces looking their best.

Once a year, a gentle polish may be used to refresh the surface if you wish to maintain the appearance of the piece as it arrived. Trove recommends professional-grade yet delicate products such as the Hagerty's Line, which are effective while remaining respectful of vintage finishes and patina.

Above all, Trove encourages restraint. Natural patina and subtle signs of age are part of each object’s history and character, and thoughtful care allows pieces to age beautifully over time.
