Sweden, 1960
Pair of GAB Tenn Faceted Pewter Candlesticks
A beautifully sculptural pair of Swedish pewter candlesticks by GAB Tenn, produced in 1960.
Their distinctive architectural form combines a strongly faceted, tapering base with a softly rounded stem, broad circular drip tray and vertically fluted candle socket. The crisp geometry of the lower section gives the pair a striking presence, while the gently undulating rim of the drip tray brings a subtle softness to the otherwise precise silhouette.
Cast in pewter in Eskilstuna by GAB Tenn, one of Sweden's most respected historic makers of silver and pewter. Founded in Stockholm in 1867, GAB became an important name in Swedish metalwork, with its pewter pieces particularly appreciated for their refined forms, quality and enduring Scandinavian aesthetic.
With their combination of architectural geometry, beautiful proportions and softly aged pewter surface, this pair makes a particularly elegant example of mid-century Swedish metalwork — equally at home on a dining table, mantel or among a collection of decorative objects.
Both candlesticks are stamped K9 GAB TENN to the underside, with K9 being the GAB year designation for 1960.
