A distinctive example of Swedish Grace metalwork, this pewter vase was created by J.L. Hultman for Svenskt Tenn in 1931. Its elongated, trumpet-shaped body rises from a stepped circular foot encircled by sculptural pewter spheres, while delicate scroll-form handles lend an ornamental counterpoint to its otherwise restrained silhouette.

The front is decorated with an engraved tulip emerging from a scalloped ground. Above it, a small golden-toned brass roundel forms a stylised sun, surrounded by finely incised rays. The contrast between the warm brass and softly patinated pewter gives the composition a particularly graphic quality, bringing together botanical and celestial motifs characteristic of the poetic classicism of Swedish Grace.

The underside bears the J.L.H. Svenskt Tenn oval stamp, the firm’s distinctive angel trademark and the Swedish date code E8, dating the piece precisely to 1931.

The vase is in good vintage condition, with a soft grey patina, surface scratches, small interior marks and signs of use consistent with its age. The upper rim is subtly irregular rather than perfectly circular, reflecting the hand-worked nature of the piece and the softness of pewter. These details form part of its history and individual character.

Condition Report

It is in good vintage condition, showcasing a gorgeous, authentic soft grey patina with expected surface scratches, tiny internal markings, and light signs of historic use. Reflecting its hand-worked nature and vintage history, the top rim displays a charming, slightly organic asymmetry and is not a perfect circle, an intentional testament to its artisanal craftsmanship and unique, individual character.
