Large Art Deco Saint-Louis Amber Crystal "Côtes Plates" Flared Vase

France - c. 1930s

About This Piece

Hailing from the world’s most venerable glassworks—Saint-Louis, founded in 1586 and granted the title of "Royal Manufactory" by King Louis XV in 1767—this vase represents a masterclass in French Art Deco modernism. While Saint-Louis is legendary for its 19th-century patterns, the 1920s and 30s saw the house embrace sculptural power and the mastery of color under their exclusive "Cristaux d'Art" label.

Expertly mouth-blown and hand-cut, this "Grand Format" flared vase showcases the "Côtes Plates" (Flat Ribs) technique. The architectural design transitions from a weighted octagonal foot to a dramatic 32cm flared rim, creating a stunning chromatic gradient that glows with golden honey hues when backlit. Weighing a formidable 4.2 kg, the piece possesses the exceptional optical density and resonant ring that only high-density Saint-Louis crystal can achieve.
