Folded Flame Vase — E.S.A.
Italy , c. 1950s
About This Piece
Hand-formed ceramic vessel produced in Turin during the 1950s by E.S.A. (Eredi Sante Anselmo), a family-run ceramic workshop active in mid-century Turin.
The wide, asymmetrical body rises into a controlled central fold — a gesture that appears spontaneous but demands significant technical precision at this scale, where imbalance during firing could compromise the structure.
Finished in a satin red glaze with a vivid yellow interior, the bold pairing reflects the confident, graphic colour language embraced by Italian ceramic ateliers of the period.
Large-scale folded forms from Turin workshops of this period are rare, making this a particularly compelling example — equally striking displayed empty or in use.
