"Fish Bowl" Vase — Ursa Major
France, c. 1970s
Hand-blown and signed studio glass vase produced in France during the 1970s by Ursa Major.
Titled Fish Bowl, the rounded, near-spherical form holds colour as if suspended in water. Threads, fragments and small bursts of pigment drift through the clear glass body, appearing to float within its volume. A cobalt rim defines the opening, framing the interior like a horizon line.
Light transforms the piece constantly — colours intensify, soften, and shift depending on angle and time of day. What feels playful at first reveals quiet depth on closer view.
At 21 cm and weighing almost 1.6 kg, it has a reassuring presence while retaining its sense of levity.
A joyful, atmospheric example of 1970s French studio glass — designed to be lived with, not just displayed.
