Signed André Delatte Nancy Art Deco Amethyst Glass Vase
France c. 1930s
An imposing Art Deco vase in deep amethyst glass, signed Delatte Nancy to the foot, France, circa 1930s. Founded by André Delatte in the early 20th century, the Delatte glassworks formed an integral part of the region’s storied decorative tradition, standing alongside the legacy of masters such as Gallé and Daum.
This piece is defined by its powerful ovoid silhouette, standing 23cm in height with a substantial 6.5cm aperture, allowing for generous floral arrangements or a bold standalone presence. The rich purple glass possesses a moody, metamorphic quality, shifting from a luminous amethyst to a deep, inky aubergine depending on the light. Subtly fluted vertical ribbing catches the light across the surface, emphasizing the structured, "shouldered" form.
Elegant without ornament, the vase reflects the quiet strength of French Art Deco—sculptural, atmospheric, and refined. Its restrained geometry allows the sheer depth of the glass and the polished surface to command the space. In excellent vintage condition, it shows light signs of age and base wear consistent with its period.
