Salvador Dalí 'Melting Teaspoon'
Spain c. 1967
Conceived by Salvador Dalí in 1967, the Melting Teaspoon transforms a familiar domestic object into a surrealist gesture. The softened, flowing form disrupts both function and expectation, reflecting Dalí’s enduring fascination with metamorphosis and instability.
Part of Dalí’s later exploration of applied arts, the spoon translates his surrealist vocabulary into an intimate, sculptural object. The form echoes motifs first explored in Agnostic Symbol (1932), where elongated, spoon-like shapes dissolve into the surrounding void. Produced in Spain by the Catalan workshop Joid’art, the piece sits between sculpture and utility—quietly poetic and deliberately disorienting.
