Optical Wave Glass Vase — Erich Jachmann
Germany, c. 1960s
Blown glass vase designed in the 1960s by Erich Jachmann for WMF.
The cylindrical form is clean and modern, yet a subtle internal wave is formed within the glass itself, gently bending light as it passes. This quiet movement gives the vase its character — colours shift and deepen depending on angle and illumination.
Layered tones of amber and olive are grounded by a warm rosé-red base, creating depth without heaviness. The internal wave is both visible and tactile, adding a quiet sense of movement to an otherwise disciplined silhouette.
Compact in scale, it is easy to place on a shelf, console, or dining table while still offering presence.
A refined piece of mid-century West German design: modern, warm, and quietly distinctive.
