Mihai Topescu Signed Studio Art Glass 'Overlaid Lattice' Vase in Clementine Orange

A striking piece of hand-blown studio art glass by Romanian artist Mihai Țopescu, this sculptural vase is formed around an intense clementine-orange core, enveloped by layers of clear glass.

Worked by hand while molten, the glass has a beautifully irregular surface, with fine lines and rounded loops built across the body to create an expressive overlaid lattice. The result is wonderfully tactile and full of movement, with the clear glass catching the light and revealing different layers of orange and transparency from every angle.

The Artistry of Mihai Țopescu

Born in Romania in 1956, Țopescu is an internationally exhibited glass artist known for treating glass as a sculptural medium, combining intense colour, substantial forms and intricate hand-worked surfaces.

His work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the International Glass Exhibition in Kanazawa, Japan, and the Coburg Prize for Contemporary Glass, and is held in collections including the European Parliament, the Glass Museum in Coburg, Germany, and the Glass Museum in Ebeltoft, Denmark.

Standing 24.5 cm high and weighing 1.3 kg, this is a substantial and highly tactile object. Its fluid asymmetrical rim and richly worked surface give it the presence of a sculptural artwork, whether displayed with flowers or simply appreciated on its own.

The underside of the ground and polished base bears Țopescu’s incised signature.
