Portieux Vallerysthal "Oiseaux" Art Deco Frosted Globe Vase

France, c. 1950 - 1960s

About This Piece

An exquisite example of the Lorraine glassmaking tradition, this "Oiseaux" (Birds) globe vase was crafted by Portieux Vallerysthal, one of France's oldest and most prestigious crystal manufactures. This piece captures the transition from Art Deco geometric discipline to the softer, organic modernism of the mid-20th century.

The spherical body features a rhythmic relief of stylized birds in flight, emerging from a "satin" frosted surface. The play between the matte finish and clear polished accents creates a soft, atmospheric glow that highlights its sculptural form. Its substantial weight (2 kg) and thick-walled crystal speak to the artisanal heritage of the Lorraine region.

With a 6.7 cm opening originally designed for tulips, this vessel acts as a grounding anchor for a contemporary interior. Its architectural "ball" shape and "Noir" aesthetic make it a versatile statement piece, ideally styled with minimalist seasonal stems or as a standalone object of curiosité.
