Monumental Delatte Nancy Art Deco Trumpet Vase
France - c . 1930s
A large and impressive vase by Nancy maître verrier André Delatte, circa 1925 - 1930s. Standing 39cm tall and weighing 4.5kg, this is an exceptional example of Delatte’s Art Deco period output — a piece whose scale and physical presence command attention.
The vessel is executed in a smoky, olive-tinted glass of remarkable translucent depth, shifting from an airy transparency in the body to a near-opaque darkness at the foot — a natural tonal gradient produced entirely by the varying thickness of a single monochromatic glass batch, without applied color or decoration.
The form is purely architectural: a dramatic flared trumpet, its surface animated by a subtle fluted ripple effect, rising from a sharp geometric hexagonal foot — restrained, confident, and entirely of its era. The piece is signed Delatte in script on the foot.
A small trapped air bubble within the foot is characteristic of hand-blown production at the Delatte Nancy workshops and consistent with pieces from the early 1920s
